We’re very lucky that we have a strong group of people who live and work in India all the time, and they are often from the areas that we work in, so they know the communities and culture well.
When I’m in the UK we talk to our partners working in India on a regular basis, at least once every two weeks.
When we’re in India we are usually visiting project sites or the school that we support, so we have our colleagues from India with us, and they help us to communicate with people as translators if necessary. In Tamil Nadu, lots of people can speak at least some English, and myself and other trustees have very basic Tamil so we can say hello and introduce ourselves, but then we usually speak through translators.
