A geography degree helps you get that first job because the employer wants to know you can understand complicated tasks and commit to the work. After that, it’s about experience.

To get started with my PhD, I needed to show I had experience with a social science undergraduate degree (for me that was Psychology with American Studies), but I think the thing that can set an application apart is real life experience, so being involved with charities as a trustee and a volunteer helped to show that you have experience and are interested in your subject area.

For my job, a degree in geography … And then experience
